Issa Rae Comes to FIU for a Chat!


Issa Rae visited FIU, Modesto Maidique Campus on  Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017. She was the Black Student Union’s Keynote Speaker for Black History Month. 

She is best known for her web-series, “Awkward Black Girl.” She started off creating it on YouTube, and now the series has over 20 million views. 


Catch up with her first series, Awkward Black Girl, season 1.

After gaining a platform, she went on to become a self-made content producer for budding writers. She mentions her thoughts on black love, the perception of black women in media and how she is smashing the typical stereotypes.


 Fans rejoiced as she made her way onto cable-television. She started her Grammy nominated HBO show called, “Insecure.”
